David Young & The Interstate Kings Present: Vintage American

Originally from the woods of Maine, Nashville-based band David Young & The Interstate Kings are proud to introduce Vintage American, their new album that explores travel and the journey of self across ten dynamic and groove-laden roots-rock songs.

Recorded over a 10-day residency at Hidden Creek Music studios in Nashville TN, Vintage American explores what it means to pursue a dream while contemplating one’s direction and purpose on the road of life. In the song “My Believer”, David’s lyrics address the perennial struggle of defining one’s raison d'être amongst the churning tides of life: “I’m a dreamer, but it keeps me up at night / My believer, you’re my guiding light”.

With a modern approach to traditional album promotion, The Interstate Kings have released each of the songs on Vintage American as standalone singles, highlighting the strength and sonic diversity of the album. The Kings’ bar-rock swagger and groove (spearheaded by drummer Deven Young and bassist Seth Martin) is infused with elements of Texas and Piedmont Blues, 70s singer-songwriter, and Outlaw Country. Vintage American’s instrumentation creates a formidable backdrop for David’s lyrics, and engineer Kevin Grenier expertly captures the band's unique sound and style.

The Interstate Kings approach their artistry with a lighthearted playfulness, reminding the listener that life is for appreciating even as singer/lyricist David Young explores complex and at times poignant lyrical themes. But make no mistake, Vintage American is an album that speaks for itself and stands firmly on its own feet, a multi-layered piece of art that’s as enjoyable tearing up a highway with the windows down as it is through a home stereo while sipping a whiskey.

Artist Bio: David Young & The Interstate Kings

The Interstate Kings began over a decade ago in a basement in rural Maine. Brothers David Young (guitar) and Deven Young (drums) connected over their shared love of American music and road trips, and began writing songs together in high school. Music became such a big part of the brothers’ lives that David sold his bed and spent 4 years sleeping on a bean bag to make room for a drum kit in his bedroom/rehearsal room. Following their formative years performing around New England, the Interstate Kings decided to keep building their show and relocated to Nashville, TN in 2019.

Since moving to Music City, The Interstate Kings have found success in a number of avenues. The Young brothers have written/recorded/released two full-length albums together: David’s solo album Can-Am (2022), and The Interstate Kings’ most recent album Vintage American (2025), featuring third founding member Seth Martin on bass guitar. Vintage American was written and recorded during a ten-day residency at Hidden Creek Music in Nashville, and has done well as an independent release, garnering over 60,000 Spotify streams across its first three singles. In 2024 the Kings recorded and released their first Christmas song, a re-imagining of "Christmas Must Be Tonight", the classic holiday song originally written by The Band in 1977.

The Young brothers are active in the Nashville music scene, where David performs a number of acoustic residencies including The Moxy Downtown, Noelle, and The Nashville Palace, and Deven contracts as a studio drummer. Living up to their name, The Interstate Kings have performed in over a dozen states and counting. In addition to the Interstate Kings, David has brought his brand of guitar picking and vocals to a number of other groups, including with renowned group Savannah Jack, headlining on over 20 cruise ships.

On their Road Trip Across America, David Young & The Interstate Kings are bringing the great stories and songs of America to stages across the USA and beyond. From Northern New England to South Florida, Nashville to California, their dynamic live show continues to captivate audiences, weaving together beloved Americana classics and their own catalogue of originals.

Artist & Project Brief (TL;DR)

The Interstate Kings’ new album Vintage American breaks open the multifaceted idea of the American dream, exploring the search for purpose through lyricist David Young’s tapestry of characters, storytelling, and bluesy tongue-in-cheek euphemisms. The power trio’s tight-knit instrumentation provides its dynamic foundation: honed by years of performing live shows in Maine, Nashville, and across a dozen states, their signature bar-rock swagger and groove is infused with elements of Piedmont and Texas Blues, 70s singer-songwriter, and Outlaw Country. Calling to mind modern roots-rock mainstays such as Sturgill Simpson, Vintage American delivers as a sonic and lyrical road trip that undeniably lives up to The Interstate Kings’ name.
